Dee Dee had returned to Virginia Tech in January 2000 to earn a BS in Biology. As she was considerably older than her classmates, she did not truly befriend anyone her own age until that summer. Heather took her to Tiffany's 4th of July party, where she met Alex. Dee Dee felt a knot in her stomach upon meeting him, but once he did an inverted keg stand from a tree, she knew it was love. Their first date was to see "The Princess Bride" at The Lyric.
We travelled to South Beach Miami during Dee Dee's spring break in 2001. While our visit was primarily to visit the University of Miami's Marine Biology graduate program, we played tourist, swam, tanned and relaxed. Dee Dee dove off Key Biscayne while Alex cycled around the island. We capped off the week by dining at Joe's Stone Crab House and drinking at Wet Willie's, the Clevelander and an Irish Pub on Washington or Collins. We strolled along the beach and decided to rest atop a beach chair storage bin. We chatted about how wonderful the week had been and what the future held for us individually and as a couple. At 3:41am, Alex asked Dee Dee to become his wife. The answer was a resounding yes. Not only did he ask her atop the bin, but he jumped down and asked her again. The answer was still yes. He then got down on one knee and asked her again. As she answered yes for the third time, he told her to shut up and let him finish the question. She did and he did and she still said yes. The ring appeared two weeks later. Thankfully she had already taken her Fish Ecology exam.

We honeymooned at the Sandals St. Lucia resort, where we had a small pool outside of our suite. Other than one island tour, we did absolutely nothing except bask in the sun.
